The opening event in 2007 was a cruise on the steamship "Katahdin" where 45 photo canvas prints were debuted. This "Heritage Collection" exhibit capturing the strong timber history of the area, was enjoyed by all but especially by the twelve former Kennebec River Drivers who were special guests on the cruise. The cruise toured the lake up to Kineo while those on board learned about the former river driving routes and saw the now forested locations of many infamous yet long-gone lumber and sport camps. Upon completion of the cruise, the crowd was treated to an old-time logging skill exhibition by the Colby Woodsmen team. In keeping with the historic logging theme, bateau rides were also offered. It was quite a site to see an authentic 32-foot bateau gliding around the cove next to the "Katahdin." As various guests were rowed around the cove, one could almost be transported back in time to that bygone era! (E.Bartley photo)
Each year the highlight of the Saturday events is the Game of Logging competition by the Certified Logging Professional group.
In addition to the Game of Logging competition, Saturday is also host to a craft fair and woods-based industry exhibit hall, horse and buggy rides, and the Log-A-Load raffle for the Children's Miracle Network. Because of the generosity of those in attendance, we were able to raise $1000 for CMN.
